The first ever "console quality" Final Fantasy game is coming to the West this August, says publisher Square Enix.

In Mobius Final Fantasy, players control Wol, a man who has woken up in a world called Palamecia with no memory of his past. Wol is tasked with bringing hope to the world by unravelling a mysterious prophecy around the legendary warrior of light.

The mobile RPG will feature gameplay elements from previous Final Fantasy titles including levelling, turn-based combat tied to a job system, and exploration via standard navigation and fast-travel system.

Among the development team are a number of Final Fantasy veterans, including producer Yoshinori Kitase and writer Kazushige Nojima – both known for their work on Final Fantasy VII.

The mobile game released in Japan in June of last year to a strong reception and more than two million players in its first two months.

Mobius will release to iOS and Android on August 3, however players can pre-register to receive Final Fantasy X themed items including Tidus' signature weapon, 'Brotherhood', a Yuna character card, and more.

Pre-registration for the game has opened to Australia and New Zealand on the Mobius Website.

The game will release to iOS and Android August 3.
