Xaviant today announced The Culling, an ultraviolent competitive survival game set for early access next month.

Taking cues from films like Battle Royale and The Hunger Games, as well as survival games like DayZ and Rust, The Culling pits 16 players against one another on a remote island.

Players seek to be the last one standing, using exploration, scavenging, crafting, and violence to get one up on their competitors.

Unlike the sprawling, persistent open world of DayZ, the Lichdom: Battle Mage developer's game is designed around more focused experiences lasting 20 minutes.

Its trailer shows off many ways to wreak victory upon opponents, including hatchets, tasers, bows, guns, and chainsaws.

The Culling releases via Steam Early Access on March 8th, 2016.
