Upcoming puzzle-platformer Unravel might be getting a name change, as the US Patent and Trademark Office has rejected EA’s claim on its title.

NeoGAF has spotted that EA had abandoned its trademark application for “Unravel”, after it was refused on on June 22 due to its similarity to a trademark for a children's tabletop game called Beary's Unravel Game.

“When comparing marks, the test is not whether the marks can be distinguished in a side-by-side comparison, but rather whether the marks are sufficiently similar in terms of their overall commercial impression that confusion as to the source of the goods and/or services offered under the respective marks is likely to result,” the refusal document explains.

EA had six months to argue its case but didn’t, so perhaps an expanded title is on the way for the game that’s likely to be formerly known as Unravel (which, incidentally, is due to release on February 9).
