Valve is not a backer of the Steam Box-like Xi3 Piston, the company has confirmed.
Valve's Doug Lombardi told Eurogamer that although his company had some dealings with Piston creator Xi3 Corporation, this was no longer the case.
"Valve began some exploratory work with Xi3 last year, but currently has no involvement in any product of theirs," he said.
The Xi3 Piston was unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, and according to Xi3 is optimised for computer gameplay on large high-definition TV monitors.
The device is specifically designed to support both Steam and its Big Picture mode “for residential and LAN party computer gaming on larger high-def screens”, it said.
The base model of the Xi3 will be launched in the UK at Christmas for around US$1000 (AU$969).
Gabe Newell recently said that the Steam Box would be in the hands of consumer testers within four months.
