The developer behind indie gaming’s biggest success story, Minecraft’s Markus “Notch” Persson, has said he’s willing to personally fund the development of Psychonauts 2 at Double Fine.

Double Fine’s Tim Schafer has frequently insisted he’s interested in creating a sequel to Psychonauts – most recently on Rock, Paper, Shotgun – but has so far been unable to secure publisher backing.

Yesterday, Notch tweeted Schafer, saying, “Let's make Psychonauts 2 happen.”

“Also, I’m serious,” he then tweeted in confirmation to Rock, Paper, Shotgun regarding his intent to fund the game.

Psychonauts has become a cult classic since its release in February 2006.
