THQ has confirmed that it has seven titles, including six unannounced titles, scheduled for 2014, in spite of persistent rumours the publisher is foundering.
According to its latest quarterly financial report, released yesterday, Warhammer 40,000 Dark Millennium Online is scheduled for launch in “fiscal 2014 and beyond.” Also scheduled is its collaboration with director Guillermo Del Toro, Homefront 2, a shooter from Turtle Rock, a game led by Assassin’s Creed creator Patrice Désilets, and four more unannounced core titles.
On the back of uDraw’s poor performance, THQ posted a loss of US $55.9 million this quarter, compared to $14.9 million this time last year.
“Sales of the uDraw GameTablet and related software, and other titles in the kids, family and casual category were far weaker than anticipated, substantially reducing our financial results for the quarter,” said CEO Brian Farrell.
“We have since concluded an extensive review of our operations to realign our business, focusing on our key franchises with the most potential.”
On Wednesday, THQ reported that it’s made 240 staff redundant in a restructuring effort that will see the publisher focus more on core titles.
“We are implementing a plan to bring costs in line with our lower anticipated level of revenue,” continued Farrell. “With our focused product plan, leaner cost structure, cash balance, and existing credit facility, we believe the company has adequate resources to execute on our plan and deliver on our strong multi-year pipeline of games.”
The two bright spots in THQ report were Saints Row: The Third and WWE 12. Saints Row: The Third has shipped 3.8 million units to date, while WWE 12 has shipped 2 million.
