Publisher Konami has formally announced that Silent Hill 8 will be released next year on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
The game was first teased at E3 this year and is in development at Vatra Games.
Konami wants to “stay true to the franchise's roots”, and deliver a “next generation horror game that the fans truly deserve” says Konami chief Shinji Hirano.
The game features an escaped convict as the protagonist, Murphy Pendleton who becomes stranded in the abandoned town of Silent Hill after his penal bus crashes.
