Game developer Brian Wood deliberately swerved to receive the brunt of a crash that claimed his life, says his wife Erin.
Erin Wood has told newspaper The Province that both she and their unborn child were saved by her husband’s selfless decision to turn into the oncoming SUV driven by alleged drugged driver Jordyn Weichert in order to avoid a head-on collision and to receive the force of the impact himself.
“All the policemen say that if we had hit the car head-on all of us would be dead. At the very last second (Brian) braked really hard and turned right so that he would be put in the path of the SUV and not me and the baby, and that is the only thing that saved us both,” she said.
Brian Wood was lead designer on Company of Heroes Online at Relic Entertainment.
Erin Wood continued, “More than anything he was a wonderful man . . . He was so excited to be a father and he did the only thing he could to save his baby and it is so telling about who he is as a person that he was willing to sacrifice himself to save us.”
