In a brief statement this morning, ZeniMax media, the parent company of both id Software and Bethesda softworks, said that publishing rights for RAGE had been moved to Bethesda. The rights to publish had previously been with Electronic Arts.
ZeniMax also made explicit that EA will no longer be involved in the sales or marketing of RAGE. In a brief statement of their own to GameSpot, EA said, “In keeping with EA’s initiative to focus on fewer hits, we have ended our publishing agreement with ZeniMax. We wish the very best outcome for the id team on what we believe will be an extraordinary game.”
EA’s aforementioned initiative is the result of the company’s ongoing restructuring that saw twelve unannounced titles and more than 1,500 EA staffers cut loose last month.
RAGE is a post-apocalyptic first person shooter with strong racing elements. Players assume the role of a nanotechnology-enhanced survivor setting out from an underground ark to explore the new environment. To that end, the title should be right at home under Bethesda’s banner.
