DirectX 11.1 is exclusive to Windows 8, Microsoft has announced.
Microsoft’s Daniel Moth said that the newest DirectX is native to Windows 8, and that the company has no intention to retrofit the API to Windows 7 at this time.
DirectX 11.1 has few features that will directly appeal to gamers, aside from native stereoscopic 3D support.
Windows 8 has proven to be divisive. Valve’s Gabe Newell, Blizzard’s Rob Pardo, and Minecraft creator Markus Persson have all said the closed platform is bad for their respective businesses.
