Shadowgate is the latest old school property to receive a Kickstarter campaign.
Creators Dave Marsh and Karl Roelofs are rebooting the classic adventure at their new studio, Zojoi.
The new Shadowgate would not be a port, but rather “a re-imagining that includes a lot of new features, exciting updates and ingenious additions that will add even more to the mythology and expand upon the original story of our fantasy classic,” said the pair.
“This is the Shadowgate that we always wanted to make and we are thrilled that we have the opportunity to capture the unique excitement of the original while expanding on the world and mythos like never before.”
According to the Kickstarter page, the new game will feature more than 60 rooms, new puzzles, high-resolution paint artwork, an in-game hint system, object-specific animations, and an overhauled interface.
If the campaign is successful, the game will be made for PC, Android, iOS devices, and Mac.
At the time of writing, US$38,897 (AU$37,518) has been pledged. The goal is US$120,000 (AU$115,745), and 28 days remain in the fundraising drive.
Shadowgate was first released on the Mac in 1987, was ported numerous times, and spawned two sequels.
