Lawsuit accuses Valve of enabling illegal CS:GO gambling

A lawsuit has been filed against Valve Software that accuses the Steam platform-holder of enabling an "illegal online gambling market" via Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

The suit, filed for CS:GO player Michael McLeod, claims that Valve "knowingly allowed, supported, and/or sponsored illegal gambling by allowing millions of Americans to link their individual Steam accounts to third-party websites."

It refers to websites like CSGO Diamonds and CSGO Lounge, where players can bet on match outcomes using weapon skins.

Counter Strike: GO beta delayed

The public beta of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has been delayed after professional players of Counter-Strike 1.6 provided feedback to developer Valve.

The professional players were asked to play the game first, as they are able to give constructive feedback, something that can be hard to come by from regular gamers, estimates Valve's Chet Faliszek.

“They gave us a lot of feedback on things we should get in the game before we release it, otherwise we're going to be getting a lot of bug reports or a lot of feedback and it would just be redundant.”

Valve has released the first trailer and screenshots for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO) which will expand upon the team-based action gameplay pioneered when it was launched exactly 12 years ago. CS: GO features new maps, characters, and weapons and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc.). In addition, CS: GO will introduce new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more.

Coinciding with the twelfth anniversary of Counter-Strike Beta 1's release in 1999, Valve has announced it is working on a new title in the franchise, titled Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, or CS: GO.

Expanding upon the original's wildly successful team-based action gameplay, CS: GO will be a downloadable title targeted for release in early 2012 on Steam for PC and Mac, on Xbox Live Arcade and on PlayStation Network. It is being developed by Valve in cooperation with Seattle-based Hidden Path Entertainment.

CS: GO will introduce new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, "and more". Classic maps such as "de_dust" will return.
