It resembles the Wii remote so closely that this may cause issues between Sony and N.

Read the hands on bit, it actually sounds kinda okay.

like.... http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/10/h...aystation-move/

I was pretty put off by the Move when they released the idea at E3 (or whenever it was last year) but it's sounding pretty promising, if its responding as well as they say it is in a very early build of socom 4, I could see myself picking up a couple.

Plus the novelty factor with the girlfriend and mates.

Even if it is a pretty much direct copy of the Wii, good to be doing stuff in HD.

In before Nintendo will sue. The fact that it has a second 'nunchuck' device as well is a bit iffy.

Basically it's just going to be a better version of the Wii motion controller, which is what Sony where probably targeting at.

I'd say sony have been very carefull to differentiate their patents from the Wii controllers - seeing the obvious similarities.

Otherwise Nintendo would have been all over them from its announcement last year.

I think without the 'nunchuck' it would have been severely limited to mouse and gesture jobs, from reports it sounds like the pairing does for the hardcore (ugh, not so casual anyway) games what the wii tried to occasionally, but couldn't really pull off very well.

I really want one now for some reason.

I can't understand why.

Even the not-so-keen-eyed observer has probably noticed by now that the PlayStation Move's logo doesn't really look like a letter "M." That's because it's a letter "A," as in "Arc," the name which, according to multiple Sony sources who wished to remain anonymous, is what the peripheral was to be called at retail until the company was refused a trademark on the Arc name. In fact, we've been told that the change to "Move" was made quite recently, which further explains the incongruous logo.

If you think "Move" is an odd name for Sony's motion controller, these same sources assured us that we got lucky – many of the other proposed names following the trademark denial were ranged from silly to awful, they said. When we suggested that "PlayStation Boogie" was about as bad as we could imagine, we were told, "Actually, that's an improvement over a lot of them."

Keep an eye on the Move logo -- we wouldn't be surprised if Sony's marketing department adds a little extra blue ink before E3, making it a true (stylized) letter "M."

Haha.

totally different technology
PS Move uses camera to track motion using the colour globes
Wii mote uses motion sense gadget inside and infrared like the classic time crisis guns have

it may achieve similar results but ITS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT way of implementation
no one is suing anybody

if people cant copy ideas then i guess every console that ever existed is a copy cat of the very first console that started using the gamepad

Hmm I see they're still avoiding the fps and rts genres: the ones that would benefit the most from this tech.

You already have waggle type casual games using just the eyetoy alone, so I really don't know what they're trying to accomplish with this.

It appeared to be a necessity when the Move was demoed with Resident Evil 5, having a Dualshock controller in one hand and a Move controller in another makes for awkward gaming. I don't mind the idea.

Otherwise, this is all sounding very Wii-like. It is good to hear Sony have a large number of studios on board. Over the time that Move and Natal have been known, Sony has really been pushing it (in fact, I was more impressed by the Move demos than the Natal marketing clip). Microsoft has a lot to prove.

Plus, I'm not surprised that Arc was rejected. Arc is registered to Microsoft for the Arc Mouse. D'oh!

There is one RTS supporting it: Under Siege.

sony took the snes pad and added handles and made the playstation pad.

then they saw nintendos n64 and rumble pak and made a dual shock controller.

this is just their next step.

They all copy each other to some extent, and so long as Sony or Microsoft or Ninty improves on tech that the other may have pioneered(for lack of a better word), myself as a consumer am fine with that.

If patents and intellectual property were strictly enforced in terms of the loose purpose that a peripheral serves etc. Nintendo or Atari could well have monopolised the console gaming industry 2 or 3 decades ago unless a company like Sony or Sega could come up with something drastically different.

I'll admit, Sony have managed to get me interested in motion controls, something Nintendo couldn't convince a core gamer like me to, but maybe it's due to their calculated decision to showcase a game like SOCOM 4 at the Move's first real outting. Will have to wait an see, looks promising though based on the various hands-ons I've read.

Except from what I read Sonys 'Nunchuck' doesn't actually detect waggle.

Be prepared for a rise in shit shovelware games. Saturation Station 3!

Nindinto probably can't sue, as far as i know Sony been working on the remote for longer then the Wii's. Which is also why Sonys remote is alot better at tracking. Sony wouldnt want to release something that can't be used for serious games like shooters :) Anyone see the vid for Socom 4 using the Move? It looked alright.

If it plays lika a wii, then not really interested. I'm not really the waggle type.

Imo the only way this will even have a chance at success and a slice of the Wii market (Which obviously is what Sony wants) is to start bundling the PS Waggle with all consoles sold and lower the price a bit then get it out to the public in every way possible. The waggle also has to be easy to use, which could mean implementation into the XMB. If non of these factors are considered then it could well be doomed. I'm not generalizing, but I'd say that over half the Wii's sales are from people who aren't big on gaming but are big on party fun and if they have to learn to use a Dual Shock 3 on top of the Waggle as well as a confusing dashboard then they aren't going to want to purchase a console + accessories when the Wii does everything out of the box and is simple to use.

There is a reason why the Gamecube + Waggle has done so well and that is public awareness. It's been on Ellen, Oprah and god knows what else and it's been regular people pulled from the audience to have a go. If you use PR tools to go on the show they'll talk the talk and confuse the hell out of these casual gamers that don't know the lingo. I think Sony are trying to appeal to the wrong market. I could be wrong but I don't see this being a massive success.

My interest for Move and natal is zero, and what they have shown of Move at GDC has been totally underwhelming. This is basically Sony and Microsoft attempting to give potential Wii buyers another reason to reconsider their purchase.
And a game like Socom would be far better off played with a standard controller.

From feature reports GT5 is meant to be doing that with the PSEye, how accurate is anyone's guess but you may see more support for this sort of thing if the Move takes off (you need the camera).
