Hello everyone!

After three days of warming up to it, the first day has been and gone.

E3 2010 opened up at 10am here in Los Angeles. The Gameplanet gang on the ground had been up since dawn, preparing for the day-one onslaught of over-lapping press briefings as well as the estimated 45,000 people cramming the convention centre. Gruelling, but a good fire-test for the rest of E3!

First up this morning we had the Nintendo briefing, which after last year's snoozefest was, the rumours suggested, going to be a real cracker.

A good look at the new Zelda: Skyward Sword was perked up by a visit from the legendary Shiggy. He tried his best to demo the enhanced controls using Wii MotionPlus, but was plagued by interference issues. It was actually pretty entertaining to watch, despite the glitches. New Metroid and Kirby also looked like great games, especially the cool yarn styled visuals of Kirby. The Nintendo 3DS was brought out by hundreds of white uniformed booth babes, with the console chained to them. To be honest, that just made it easier to steal both. The 3D depth of the 3DS isn't mind blowing, I hope it's not tech that gets dumped in the novelty basket, it just needs a champion. By the looks of it, that champion will come in the form of a revitalised Kid Icarus, which looks better than some Wii titles and needs to be seen to be believed.

Sony's briefing was probably the best received by the attending crowd, who were cheering at almost every available opportunity. Killzone 3 looks like the business end of their lineup, but the real star was Move. It looks responsive, accurate and lagless. Unlike Kinect (although I'm yet to actually use either).

I had a chance to wander the floor a wee bit, but was kept from playing too many of the games I was keen on, opting to get some up close interviews with the developers of Vanquish and Conduit 2. Vanquish is a slick and beautifully animated action/shooter, from the devs who made Bayonetta. The original Conduit was an ambitious Wii shooter, which was pretty good at multiplayer and not much else. The sequel makes strides to correct this and after a play this afternoon I can confirm it's pretty fun, especially in four-player split screen. Check GP again soon for more in-depth info on these two titles.

OK, so I'm going to bed. Pretty tired from the Activision party last night (Usher, Jane's Addiction, Eminem, Chris Cornell, Rhianna, N.E.R.D. etc)... Tomorrow is going to be all about getting as many games as possible in, and getting my LucasArts interview on for SWTOR.

Love from James (JC)
