Blizzard announces new World of Warcraft expansion

Speaking at BlizzCon this morning, Blizzard's senior vice-president of story and development Chris Metzen revealed World of Warcraft's latest expansion.

Mists of Pandaria will be set in the new continent of Pandaria, and will see World of Warcraft's level cap raised to 90.

The new expansion will also feature new dungeons, new PvP content and a new talent system, as well as the introduction of the Pandaren race, and the Monk class. Pandaren will be playable as both Alliance and Horde.

More information is expected to follow the BlizzCon World of Warcraft Preview Panel at 8.30am NZT.

keen for an audience reaction video from when they played the trailer at blizzcon

i expect it would be everyone laughing at first thinking its a joke followed by half the audience pissed and raging while the other half is joyous and excited

I think they scraped right through the bottom of the barrel and have hit thin air where theyve now started pulling ideas from.

Pandaren predate World of Warcraft. They've been in the series for decades.

We did a poll asking what would you most like to see in World of Warcraft and the number one feature was Pandaren � not even the number one race, but the number one feature. So we thought, gosh players are really passionate about this; we should take it seriously.

I think a lot of players, when they heard hints of what we were doing, they thought we were going to play the Pandaren as a slapstick silly race and then they realised that they�ve got a lot of depth and this really involved culture. They can carry an expansion, they�re a real race and not just a throw-away joke.

Warcraft hasn't been around for "decades". Decade = a measurement of 10 years. The franchise is barely 16 years old.
